“Most of the damage I get called out for started small,” Stanley said. “A crack that got ignored for two winters, water that never had anywhere to go. If someone had caught it early, it would have been a patch job instead of a full replacement.”
That observation is behind the release of a short checklist from George Stanley Paving. It is not a sales tool. It is a list of things any property owner can look for, without special equipment or training.
What the checklist covers
The George Stanley Paving checklist walks through four areas:

Surface cracks. Hairline cracks are normal. Cracks wide enough to fit a coin, or that branch out, mean water is getting underneath.

Drainage. Standing water after a normal rain, anywhere on a driveway or lot, points to a low spot or a clogged drain that needs attention.

Edges and seams. Where pavement meets a garage, curb, or sidewalk is where separation usually starts first.

Color and texture. Asphalt that looks gray and dry, or feels rough underfoot, has lost the sealant that protects it from water and sun.
Stanley kept the list short on purpose. “I didn’t want to hand someone a manual,” he said. “I wanted something they could walk their driveway with in ten minutes.”

Stanley said the timing is tied to the season, not to any promotion. Pavement problems in this part of California tend to show up after temperature swings, when small cracks that formed in the heat let water in during cooler, wetter stretches.
“This is the window where a small job stays small,” he said. “Once water gets under the surface and freezes or expands, the repair gets bigger fast.”
He added that the checklist is meant to help people make a more informed call, whether that means hiring George Stanley Paving or another contractor. “I’d rather someone catch it early and call around than wait a year and end up with one expensive option,” Stanley said.
How the checklist will be shared
George Stanley Paving is making the checklist available through the company directly, for anyone who asks. Stanley said he plans to keep updating it based on what his crews see on jobs over the next few months.
“If we start noticing a pattern, something we’re seeing on three or four properties in a row, I want that on the list,” he said. “This isn’t a one-time thing. It’s meant to stay useful.”
He said the goal is simple: fewer surprise repairs, and more property owners who understand what they are looking at before a small issue becomes a big one.
