By using the new app, cancer patients or their caregivers can manage day-to-day routines, health needs, and support. The tool allows patients to update their loved ones on their health status, and let family and friends know how they can help.
The app was created by two friends who have lived with the disease and are aware of the many challenges cancer can bring to a person’s life. Secondary to their critical health demands, the logistics of the influx of support from family and friends also became overwhelming.
For this reason, they created “My CareCrew”, which can be downloaded without a charge on the Apple app store and Google Play.
The app has a built-in chat feature that allows patients to connect instantly with their private support group. The health tracker records physical symptoms and recovery updates that can be shared with doctors, friends, and family. It also has a digital journal that offers an outlet for patients to express their thoughts and feelings as they navigate the path of their personal journeys.
Essential features are the Request Help and Accept Help functions. The former takes the stress out of letting the patients’ support group know what they need help with the most, such as childcare, transportation, meals, etc.
The Accept Help feature is what makes this app unique, by making it easy for family and friends to share all the ways they are available to help, while allowing the patient or caregiver to quickly accept the help offers they need most.
The Wishlist feature takes the guesswork out of getting a gift patients or caregivers need, want, or wish for. It allows patients and caregivers to add products and experiences while making it easy for “CareCrew” members to share gift suggestions.
According to a satisfied user, “The app provides exactly what you as a family member or close friend of a patient impacted by cancer needs. So many people around you would like to help in this difficult time, and this app will enable them to help where you really see the need in an easy and straightforward way.”
